DStv Extra View lets a household run up to three decoders on a single subscription, each watching or recording its own channels. The catch is that the decoders must be physically linked and able to communicate with each other constantly, and that link is exactly where DIY attempts fall over. Falcon TV Repairs installs the correct cabling between your primary and secondary decoders, configures the heartbeat connection, and confirms every unit is authorised and viewing before we pack up.
The cabling requirements change depending on which decoders you own. Two Explora models on a smart LNB communicate differently from an Explora paired with an older HD decoder, which may still need a dedicated heartbeat cable run between rooms. Our installers know the combinations, carry the right switches, splitters and connectors on the vehicle, and route new cable neatly along walls and through ceilings rather than draping it over your skirting boards.

Most two-decoder links are finished within a couple of hours, including the cable run between rooms and activation on your subscription. Adding a third decoder or fishing cable through a difficult ceiling can extend that, but nearly every Extra View job we do in Gauteng is completed in one same-day visit.
Can you use my existing decoders, or do I need new ones?
We link whatever compatible decoders you already own. Exploras and supported HD models all work in an Extra View setup, and there is no reason to buy new hardware if your current units are healthy. If one decoder is faulty or too old to link reliably, we will show you the issue and explain your options before anything is replaced.
Why does my second decoder keep showing an E143 or disconnection error?
That error means the secondary decoder has lost communication with the primary for too long. The usual culprits are a damaged or badly terminated heartbeat cable, a failing splitter, or decoders linked over a connection type they do not support. We trace the break with proper test equipment and repair the link, which is a quick fix in most homes.
Do all the TVs have to watch the same channel?
No, that is the whole point of Extra View. Each linked decoder tunes its own channels independently, so sport in the lounge, movies in the main bedroom and cartoons in the playroom can all run at once on one subscription. If a TV is merely mirroring another decoder through a shared cable, it is not an Extra View setup.
Is the linking work guaranteed?
Yes. The cabling, connectors, switching hardware we supply and the configuration itself are all covered by our written workmanship guarantee. If the link drops or an error returns because of something we installed, we come back and repair it at no charge. That guarantee is one of the reasons our Google reviews mention Extra View jobs so often.
Is there a cheaper option than adding another decoder?
Often, yes. If you simply want the same picture in a second room, a wired second viewing point from your existing decoder costs less than buying and linking another unit, though both TVs then share one channel.
