By measurement, not assumption. We test signal at the LNB output itself, which separates the LNB's performance from everything downstream. If readings are bad at the source, the LNB is condemned with confidence; if they are healthy there but poor at the decoder, the fault is in the cable or connectors and we fix that instead. You only pay for the repair the readings justify.
Can you replace an LNB the same day, and how long does it take?
Yes — same-day service is standard across Gauteng and our vehicles carry the common LNB types as stock. The physical swap, skew adjustment, sealing and meter verification typically take under an hour on an accessible dish. High or awkward mounting positions take a little longer, and we will tell you upfront if access changes the quoted price.
Which LNB type do I need for my decoder?
It depends on what you run. Explora decoders need a smart LNB to use all their tuners; single HD decoders can use simpler units; households linking decoders for Extra View need outputs to match their combination. Fitting the wrong type causes missing channels and recording failures, so we confirm your exact decoder setup on arrival and fit accordingly.
Will the rest of my installation be reused?
Yes, wherever it tests healthy. An LNB replacement does not require a new dish, new cable or a new decoder, and we never bundle in components the meter cannot justify. The one common exception is the connector on the dish end of your cable, which we renew as a matter of course, since a corroded fitting would undermine the new LNB immediately.
Is the replacement guaranteed, and what about the next storm?
The fitment, sealing and alignment carry our written workmanship guarantee, and the LNB itself has its manufacturer warranty. Proper sealing is the best defence against water, which causes most premature failures. Lightning is nature's exception — no component survives a direct strike — but a correctly installed and sealed LNB gives you the longest realistic service life between Highveld summers.
Is there a cheaper fix I should consider before replacing the LNB?
Sometimes. If the fault turns out to be a corroded connector or a short damaged section of cable, that repair costs less than an LNB and we will do that instead — our diagnosis frequently downgrades the job in the customer's favour. What we do not recommend is buying a cheap uncertified LNB online; the failure rate makes it a false economy.
