How a Dying LNB Behaves
Signal quality sliding over weeks, channels failing in the heat of the day, one polarity or group of channels worse than the rest, intermittent no-signal errors, and total loss after a storm.

Home/DStv/DStv LNB Replacement Done Right
DStv
The LNB is the small unit on the dish arm that does the real work — and the component most likely to fail. We fit the correct type for your decoder setup, seal it against water, and verify the result.
The details
Every signal your decoder receives passes through the LNB, the modest-looking device suspended in front of the dish. It lives outdoors year-round, cooking in the Highveld sun and drenched in its storms, and it is electronic — so it fails more often than any other part of a satellite installation. A failing LNB can announce itself dramatically with total signal loss, or sneak up over months as gradually worsening quality, channels dropping in warm weather, or errors that come and go without pattern.
Replacing one properly involves more than unclipping the old unit. LNB types are not interchangeable: an Explora needs a smart LNB, twin and single decoders have their own requirements, and Extra View households need the outputs to match their decoder mix. Fitting the wrong type produces a system that half-works, which is worse than one that fails cleanly. Falcon TV Repairs identifies your setup, fits the correct LNB, sets its skew angle precisely, and weatherproofs the connections so water cannot repeat the damage.
Water is the great LNB killer, so sealing is where our workmanship guarantee earns its keep. Connections are terminated cleanly and protected against ingress, cable drip loops are formed so rain runs away from the fittings, and the finished job is verified on a meter for both strength and quality. Fixed price quoted upfront, same-day service standard across Gauteng.

What we cover
The specifics, in plain language.
SYMPTOMS
Signal quality sliding over weeks, channels failing in the heat of the day, one polarity or group of channels worse than the rest, intermittent no-signal errors, and total loss after a storm.
CAUSES
Water working past perished seals, lightning surges from summer storms, years of ultraviolet and heat cycling, corrosion inside the connector, and physical knocks from ladders, branches or hail.
CORRECT TYPE
Smart LNB for Explora setups, appropriate single or twin units for HD decoders, and correct output counts for Extra View homes. We identify what your system needs before anything is fitted.
SEALING
New connectors terminated properly, joints protected against water ingress, and a drip loop formed in the cable so rain sheds away from the fitting instead of tracking into it.
VERIFIED
After the swap we set the skew, peak the readings and confirm strength and quality at the decoder, so you see the installation restored to full margin rather than just a picture.
HONEST ADVICE
Corroded connectors and damaged cable mimic LNB failure convincingly. We test before we replace, because swapping a healthy LNB fixes nothing and costs you money.

How it works
01
Phone or WhatsApp us your suburb and the job — install, fault, upgrade or extra rooms. A photo of your setup speeds things up.
02
We assess the dish position, cabling and decoder, then hand you a fixed price before anything happens.
03
Installed, aligned with a signal meter, sealed against the weather and cabled neatly — most jobs finish the same day.
04
We prove the signal on every channel with you watching, then back the work in writing.
FAQs
What people ask us before they book.
Send a photo of your dish, decoder or TV on WhatsApp. We can often tell you what's wrong before we get in the van.
WhatsApp a photoBy measurement, not assumption. We test signal at the LNB output itself, which separates the LNB's performance from everything downstream. If readings are bad at the source, the LNB is condemned with confidence; if they are healthy there but poor at the decoder, the fault is in the cable or connectors and we fix that instead. You only pay for the repair the readings justify.
Yes — same-day service is standard across Gauteng and our vehicles carry the common LNB types as stock. The physical swap, skew adjustment, sealing and meter verification typically take under an hour on an accessible dish. High or awkward mounting positions take a little longer, and we will tell you upfront if access changes the quoted price.
It depends on what you run. Explora decoders need a smart LNB to use all their tuners; single HD decoders can use simpler units; households linking decoders for Extra View need outputs to match their combination. Fitting the wrong type causes missing channels and recording failures, so we confirm your exact decoder setup on arrival and fit accordingly.
Yes, wherever it tests healthy. An LNB replacement does not require a new dish, new cable or a new decoder, and we never bundle in components the meter cannot justify. The one common exception is the connector on the dish end of your cable, which we renew as a matter of course, since a corroded fitting would undermine the new LNB immediately.
The fitment, sealing and alignment carry our written workmanship guarantee, and the LNB itself has its manufacturer warranty. Proper sealing is the best defence against water, which causes most premature failures. Lightning is nature's exception — no component survives a direct strike — but a correctly installed and sealed LNB gives you the longest realistic service life between Highveld summers.
Sometimes. If the fault turns out to be a corroded connector or a short damaged section of cable, that repair costs less than an LNB and we will do that instead — our diagnosis frequently downgrades the job in the customer's favour. What we do not recommend is buying a cheap uncertified LNB online; the failure rate makes it a false economy.
