Hearing your favourite channel play against a pitch-black screen is unsettling, but it is actually good news in disguise. Sound without picture almost always means the television's brain, tuner and audio stages are working normally and only the illumination behind the panel has stopped. Modern LED televisions light the screen with strips of small diodes, and when enough of them fail, or the circuit driving them shuts down for protection, the picture vanishes even though it is technically still being drawn.
There is a simple check you can do at home before calling anyone. In a dark room, play something with movement and hold a torch or phone light close to the screen at an angle. If you can make out ghostly moving images behind the glass, the panel is producing a picture and the backlight is the confirmed culprit. That single observation tells our technicians a great deal, and it means the quote we prepare will almost certainly involve LED strip or driver work rather than expensive panel surgery.
Falcon TV Repairs replaces backlight strips and repairs driver circuits every working day. The set is opened carefully, the panel lifted, full strip sets fitted rather than single diodes, and the driver current checked so the new LEDs are not cooked by the same fault twice.
